Conveyor Belt Sushi in NYC

I figured that since I had so many Italy posts to do, I’d break them up with a post here from NYC.  We all know by now how much I love food. I had heard about places that offered conveyor belt sushi but I had never heard of any here in NYC.  When I recently read about Yo Sushi I was really excited because I’m someone who loves the experience as much as the food.  The idea of being able to just grab what you wanted off a conveyor belt appealed to me in a major way.

I started out later in the afternoon because I figured I could make this a late lunch/early dinner.  I love sushi and I had no idea how many plates I’d pick off that conveyor belt.  I wound up only getting three.  I decided to be a good girl since I was going to take my mother out to dinner the next day for her belated birthday dinner.

The day was beautiful.  Warm but not hot.  It was also nice and breezy with low humidity which was great for my hair.  I have naturally curly hair but I straighten it every day.  Humidity makes it poof out like crazy.  When I got off the train near Madison Square Park I couldn’t help but walk around for a bit.  35mm, a7Rii, color, fountain, Madison Square Park, NYC, Sony

I love seeing all the beautiful flowers during this time of year.  Everything looks so pretty.  It almost makes the uncomfortable heat worth it.  Luckily, we didn’t have to worry about that this day.  Whenever I see reflections on water it reminds me of a Bob Ross painting.

It’s funny.  I used to take street style pictures but I just got sick of street photography.  I enjoy looking at street photos from other people but not taking them anymore. Besides, I got sick of the confrontations (very few but enough to irritate me).  Now I take pictures of flowers, food, and objects.  I’m much happier this way.

They have a Nutella cafe?!  How am I just now hearing about this?  Where have I been?  I think we all know that there will be a post sometime in the near future about this place.  😀

Alright.  Let’s move on to the star of the show.  The sushi of course.  I walked in and was seated right away by a smiling and friendly hostess. Soon after that, a really nice waiter came up with a menu, some water, and the ginger and wasabi in pots.  He explained that anything at the top of the menu was going to come out on the conveyor belt and anything at the bottom had to be ordered through him.

Forgive the slightly out of focus picture.  Durr brain here was still trying to figure out a camera I had owned previously.  In my defense, I had a lot of settings to get exactly the way I wanted them and I couldn’t remember them all at first.

The way it works is that you grab what you want and the meal is totaled up at the end according to the color of the plate.  I started off with the salmon sushi.

Next, I waited until this one particular roll called the Blossom Roll, came back around.  It looked absolutely delicious and when I looked it up on the menu it sounded delicious as well.  The menu description is “Shrimp katsu and avocado, rolled in purple shiso yukari, with spicy tuna.”  That spicy tuna was calling my name so I had to try it.  This is another slightly out of focus shot but don’t worry.  I figured it out after this picture so future pictures won’t look like this. 😆  I did take a picture from a side angle before I took this one but I tossed it because I didn’t like how it looked from that angle.

The spicy tuna was piled on top of the roll and was absolutely delicious.  It was a little spicier than I like but it was tolerable.  It wasn’t that burn your mouth off spicy that I hate.

I thought that this was a cute idea.  I didn’t even notice it until I was almost finished eating.

I was getting full (sushi really fills you up) so I decided to wrap it up and finish with some salmon sashimi.

Ahhh.  Finally a clear picture. 😆 The meal was nice and the experience was a lot of fun.  Was it the best tasting sushi ever?  No, (although I did like that Blossom Roll) but the experience was worth the trip.

I guess this is why I’m just mediocre. 😆 Just kidding!

The Lego store is a few doors down and I had to email my niece right away.  I figured we could take her cutie bear son here next time she comes for a visit.  My nephew would love this store.

I was trying to get a picture of these angel wings before people passed in front of it and just as I pressed the shutter, the little girl on the left totally face planted on the floor.  I was a little concerned but the kid was a trooper.  She didn’t even cry.  Her mother just picked her up off the floor and they continued on their way.
