4th of July At Coney Island

Coney Island on the 4th of July.  I know.  For an introvert I sure do like to be around busy places.  Not!  I even wondered what the hell I was thinking going to Coney Island on one of the busiest days of the summer.  I had the day off from work and I wanted to go somewhere other than the usual places in Manhattan so I headed out to Coney Island, but first my mom and I went to lunch at IHOP.  I got my usual, New York cheesecake pancakes with fried eggs, sausage, and hash browns.

My mom had a “Philly cheesesteak” (quotation marks are deliberate) with onion rings.  She let me try a bite and we agreed that it was good but it was no Ishkabibble’s.  If you’re ever in Philadelphia you have to go there.  They have two locations.  I’ve only been to Ishkabibbles II but I can highly recommend it. Whenever I take a day trip to Philadelphia I stop there on my way home.

After IHOP it was time to go to Coney Island.  Of course I headed for one of my favorite spots, which are the art walls.  I saw some of the same walls from last year with some new ones thrown in, such as this wall.  It was the perfect shot for one of my Photingo categories, which was “graffiti background”.

Another category was “romantic”.  I originally wanted to submit this picture.

But I decided to go with this picture instead.  Not traditionally romantic (and definitely not my idea of romance) but you can’t deny there are some “feelings” going on here. 😆

I thought this might be a good one for the “circles” category but every picture has to have at least one person and the people here weren’t clearly visible.  I do like how colorful this picture is and how blue to sky looks.  I know I said it before but I’m so happy to have my a7Rii back.

I spent most of my time at the art walls.  I thought it was really interesting how they had this wall set up.  The detail in this piece is incredible.

This picture is a work in progress.  I can’t wait to come back another day and see how far along they’ve gotten or if they’ve finished.

I originally considered this picture for the “graffiti background” category but I thought it might be a little bit too busy.  Like there’s too much going on and it takes away from the background.  I do like how the woman on the left, near the hand, almost appears to be posing for me.

Is this supposed to be a replica of something from SpongeBob SquarePants?  Because I love SpongeBob.  I think one of my favorite episodes has to be the one where SpongeBob and Patrick go camping and Squidward tags along.  Yes, I still watch that show.  Okay, I got sidetracked talking about SpongeBob.  How did those two guys get on the roof and why are they up there in the first place?

How cool is this bike?  It’s just something that catches your eye.

I would never go on a rollercoaster.  I am terrified of heights (and the dark, but that’s a whole different issue, right Esther?  😉 )  I remember when my cousin Tirsa was here with her daughters, she convinced me to get on the ferris wheel.  I didn’t realize that we were in one of the cars that was on a slider thing.  My cousin and her youngest daughter were in front and screaming with excitement.  I had her oldest daughter practically in a headlock, screaming like I was being chased by a serial killer.  She had to ask the guy to let me off but the ride was over anyway. 😆

I wanted a shot of this wall without anyone in front of it but figured I’d take a few people shots anyway.  Well, I got a picture of the wall by itself but I wound up loving this picture.  Good thing I just kept snapping away.

At this point I was getting a bit done with being around people so I decided to head back home.  On the way there I wanted to stop off at Momofuku Milk Bar.  I had been hearing about their cereal milk soft serve for a while and I figured I’d try it out on the way home.  As you can see, it’s a bit pricy but after trying it I can say that, in my opinion, it’s worth the price.  Not as an everyday thing, but once in a while.

This was taken with my iPhone.  The quality isn’t half bad.  I did take one with my a7Rii, but the shop was so tiny and crowded that I didn’t get a satisfactory shot.  The cup is smaller than it looks but it is very filling, especially with the crunchy bits on top. Next time I go back I want to try the cereal milk milkshake.
