I heard that in a movie once and I figured that it would be a good title for this post. I do like to take day trips to Philadelphia every once in a while but this time I really did just go for the food. Every time I’ve gone in the past there was always some food place I didn’t get to visit because either there wasn’t time, they had sold out of something that I wanted, etc. Last time it was the strawberry milkshake donuts (doughnuts?) from Federal Donuts. They had sold out so I didn’t get a chance to try them. This time I was determined to see everything I wanted. I wanted to have have a pretzel from Philadelphia Pretzel Factory, a sushi burger from 1225Raw Sushi and Sake Lounge and the strawberry milkshake donuts. (I always get a Philly cheesesteak from Ishkabibble’s II to split with my mother the next day but I’ve always had time to get one of those.)
I wound up not getting a pretzel because I saw someone who worked there picking his nose before he went inside. Helllll no. Instead I wound up going to La Colombe. I had read about how good their draft latte was so I decided to get that and an almond croissant. Both were delicious. I had to use about twelve sugar packets (no exaggeration) to make the coffee sweet enough for me.
Even though you’d think from the title that the rest of this post would be all food pics, the food I had (aside from the latte and croissant from La Colombe) were just meh. Nothing to write home about. 1225Raw wound up being closed for some reason. I looked on their website and online and didn’t see anything about it being closed (it was the day before Labor Day) so I have no idea why it was closed. While I was looking up nearby sushi places on my phone to see if anything looked good I saw three different groups of people try the door and walk away looking disappointed. I did go to a nearby sushi place but the sushi was not good. I ordered a salmon tempura roll that was kind of blah and two pieces of white tuna sushi, which was worse than blah. The tuna was tough and chewy. I could barely swallow it.
I had heard about the art walls in Philadelphia so I wanted to try and find them. I didn’t have time to see them, but I did come across this huge, beautiful mural.
I did come across this park and when I went inside it had this water fountain sculpture thing. (Aren’t I brilliant at describing things? 😆
After that I went to Federal Donuts to try and snag some strawberry milkshake donuts.
The donuts were also kind of disappointing. I’ve had donuts from Federal Donuts before and they were delicious but the strawberry milkshake donut was a bit overhyped. I can’t pinpoint what exactly about it was not that good. Maybe it was because the strawberry flavor was too strong and tasted like oversweetened strawberry Quik. I didn’t eat them until I got home because I bought them for my mother and me. I only had a little bit of time to walk to Ishkabibble’s and then walk to the Greyhound depot before the bus for New York was supposed to leave so I hustled on out of there. My phone gave me directions a different way than I was used to taking but it turned out to be a good thing because I discovered Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens. I didn’t actually go in the building but there are murals on the walls outside and through the alleyways that are just amazing. I spent the majority of my time there.
Why does it look like this one is picking his nose? 😆
This would be a nice background for pictures and selfies. All in all, a nice day trip to Philadelphia. I am determined to have that sushi burger from 1225Raw, but that will just leave me more time to explore Philadelphia the next time I go.
