Italian Beauty Haul

Italian Beauty Haul

I know, I know.  For someone who isn’t a beauty blogger, this is my second beauty related post in a week or so.  I thought when I went to Italy that I would be getting all these gorgeous, budget friendly (and yes, you can find that in Milan) clothes.  Seeing all these gorgeous Italian women in beautiful clothes made me want to up my style game, but the truth of the matter is that I am a flat boots/ballet flats/sneakers (depending on the weather) and leggings girl.  Hair and makeup is really where I come to life.  Nothing crazy in the makeup department.  Not like when I was in my goth phase in my teens. I think the only piece of clothing I bought in Italy was the pair of sweatpants for lounging in my house. 😆 Anyway, here are some of the things I picked up in Milan.  I found everything, with the exception of the sweatpants at a supermarket called Esselunga.  You go down an escalator in Piazza Gae Aulenti and there are a bunch of shops and places to get something to eat.

First up are these awesome sweatpants from CVG.  When I was here last year with Esther, I got a ton of clothes (mostly dresses).  This year, this was the only piece of clothing I bought, but I just love it.  I love how comfortable it is.  I love the way it fits.  I love the pockets, even though I won’t use them.  If they were hip pockets I’d probably use them, but since they’re on the back, I can’t see myself putting anything in them and still being able to sit properly.  I do appreciate the convenience of the pockets and they add a little extra something to your usual pair of sweatpants.  I’m all about lounging at home in something comfortable and these pants fit the bill perfectly.

I love coconut scented anything and finding a coconut scent that doesn’t smell plastic and artificial is always a challenge.  This smells pretty good and makes a decent lather.  It does come out a little watery, so I wasn’t expecting such a good lather.  I think I was just used to the consistency of the Bath & Body Works shower gels, but this one is very good as well.  You don’t need to use a lot of it, so that’s also a plus.

For someone who takes product pictures as part of her job (although I mostly write product descriptions, with occasional picture taking), I’m kind of crap at taking product shots for my blog, although in in my defense, I don’t have a studio setup in my home for these things, with lighting, white background, etc.  I feel like a bit of a dork with this one.  I was really bummed that I didn’t get more of this shampoo and conditioner.  It smells amazing.  It leaves my hair feeling really soft.  I do wish the bottle was bigger, but you can’t have everything.  Today, when I was picking up some photos at Walgreens, while the people ahead of me were paying for their photos, I happened to look behind me and see what looked like the same bottle, but in English.  It was the Whole Blends Honey Treasures shampoo and conditioner.  The good news is that at least when this runs out, I can go out to any store here and get some more.

I have this hair mask in another scent, olio d’argan e di camelia. This one is the tesori di miele and I love it more.  They both make my hair amazingly smooth and soft, but the main reason I love this one more is that is has a more pleasant scent and isn’t as strong.  I learned my lesson from last year and I picked up two.  I still have some from last year, but I’ve been rationing it off because I hate the idea of running out of it, even though I know I have to run out eventually.

35mm, a7Rii, fast dry nail polish, Italian Beauty Haul, Kiko, Milan, nail lacquer, nail polish, nail varnish, Piazza Gae Aulenti, SonyI don’t often get a chance to paint my fingernails because all of the typing I do for work, and when I used to have to take a lot of product shots, my nails would get chipped anyway so it seemed like a waste to paint them.  Even so, I love nail polish and have more of it than I’ll admit to.  When I saw this shade I had to have it in my collection.  I’ve always loved the quality of Kiko polishes, and their makeup in general.  Their cream eyeshadow in number 05 is something I’ve been using for years.  I did try a test on one of my nails and I was very impressed by the color and quality.  It wasn’t too thick or too runny.  I always use two coats and it looked pretty good.

I know gel polishes have been all the rage for a few years now, but like with everything else, I’m late to the party.  This seemed like such a cute little set and the color is perfect for summer.  It reminds me of days spent around the pool.  Mind you, I’ve never had a pool to sit around, but if I did, I imagine I’d be wearing this color as I lounge in a chair with a drink with one of those little umbrellas. 😆

These next few items aren’t in the main picture because for whatever reason, I forgot about them, but they’re here now.  First is the Kiko cream eyeshadow in 05.  I love this color so much.  I use it every single day after I put on my eyeshadow primer as a base for my powder eyeshadows.  It’s just so creamy and shimmery that it makes my eyeshadows really stand out, but in a good way.

The picture doesn’t even do it justice.  There is some serious shimmer in this bad boy.  What I like about it is that it’s easy to tone down the shimmer with a matte eyeshadow without making it completely disappear.  It looks a bit tan or orange-y but it’s more of a cross between silver and gold and it goes on almost sheer, except for the insane shimmer.  I’ve tried more high end brands and none of them even come close to the intensity and staying power of the Kiko cream eyeshadow.  I haven’t tried any of the other colors so I can’t speak to the quality of the other colors, but if you need a good, long lasting, shimmery base, the cream shadow in 05 is your best friend.

55mm, a7Rii, coffee cup, girl in a red dress, Italy, lifestyle blog, mug, Roma, Rome, Sony, souvenir

I bought this mug in Rome for €5.  I don’t know if that would be considered overpriced or not, but I wanted it to remember the trip.  I’ve started a mug collection of places where I’ve been (although I don’t have any for Milan or South Carolina) and I just feel it’s a nice way to remember your travels.

I ate most of the food stuff like the Kinder Cards (soooo good), the Kinder Cereali, and these amazing (vegan) jelly candies.  I’m not vegan, vegetarian, or pescatarian so it wasn’t like I bought them for a specific reason.  I actually didn’t know they were vegan until I was looking at the box when I got home to the USA.  They were the best jelly candies I’ve ever tasted and wished I had gotten a few boxes.  Anyway, the hotel where I was staying (Carlyle Brera) served an amazing breakfast with a large variety of foods, and they always had these little packets of different flavored jelly for the breads.  My favorite was the frutti di bosco so I was beyond excited when I saw they had a big jar of it at the supermarket.  Between that and the mug, even though I wrapped them both up in clothes and sandwiched them in between my clothes in the suitcase, I was worried that they would break.  Luckily, they both arrived safe and sound.
