I was super bummed when I found out my favorite sushi burrito place, Uma Temakeria, closed their 7th Avenue store. I loved their sushi burritos. I love sushi in general so having it in burrito form was right up my alley. I heard that there were two more locations so I didn’t worry too much. One was on 11th Avenue and the other was on Canal St. It wasn’t clear that it was inside the Canal St. Market so I actually spent almost an hour walking around with my phone’s map thing going, walking around in circles. It was only after I did a little more digging did I see that it was inside the market. Then I spent another half hour or so trying to find the market. I have no idea what was up with my phone. I was disappointed with the burrito which was only 1/3 of the way filled and came totally apart after one bite. The people at the 7th Avenue location may not have been the service with a smile types but they did their job and that’s all I really care about. I guess it’s Sushiritto all the way from now on.
During my wanderings I did manage to spot a few interesting things. What kind of tag is that?
I’m not a great lover of people so it’s no surprise that my interest in street photography is steadily declining and my love of things that don’t talk, move, or irritate me in general, such as buildings, are becoming my primary photography interest. I liked the decorations outside of this building. Unfortunately it’s difficult to take pictures in NYC without at least one person being somewhere in the frame but I think this one kind of works.
I love wall murals. They’re done by people with actual talent.
I think this was some kind of outdoor hotel cafe. I have no idea. I don’t usually go to this area. After being in Italy with Esther I’ve become a big fan of eating outside.
I love how she’s just staring at the girls taking selfies. Like she’s never taken a few of those herself. I’m willing to bet any amount of money. Even my mom and I have taken selfies. (Age old question: is it still a selfie if there’s more than one person in the picture?)
I finally found the Canal St. Market but then I remembered that Uma Temakeria doesn’t have decent drinks. I walked around the market but didn’t see anyone selling even a soda so I headed out to Duane Reade to get a drink. I needed a Bai, some juice, a soda. Something. Once I got my drink, a coconut Bai, I just stood off to the side watching as I saw lots of people doing something that drives me crazy. Walking and using their cell phone at the same time. 😡 It seems like everyone is doing it.
This one is even on a skateboard.
I think this is kind of nice. I always have to take my own pictures since I’m usually by myself. I even go on vacation alone.
I wanted a picture of just the wall with the plants but I think the picture works better this way.
